Reporting live from The Black and Blue Fair 2010, I give you a little peak of the hot items available from a bevy of the hard hitting, on the edge designers currently showing at the fair. Starting off with this stunning corset from [III]. The Baby Latica is a light shade of blue and hits your curves just perfectly. I landed right in front of this when I got to the fair today, and decided that in front of this beauty is where I would bring you the rest of the goodies for today.

Continuing on with hotness from Alexohl. Can you say....daaaaamn. Their complete selection at the fair is just incredible. The Moonshine dress pictured above made me say, "MINE MINE MINE", so a big shout out to the great people at Alexohl for the sweet additions to my wardrobe.

Alexohl also has the Rum Runner Bikini pictured above..talk about pure sexy. I love it. I am wearing Cstar's fair offering of their Betty Azul Black and Blue Fair Edition skin in Dark 1. Paired with the bikini...looks like I have had a week of lounging in the sun with some umbrella drinks. The blue lipstick well it is giving me awesome 80's flashbacks.

As promised, The Black and Blue Fair location is revealed! Click right on that nice link and head to a shopping heaven promoting a great cause! I was priviledged enough to be at the opening of the fair last night, and there is so much to tell you about and I pictures of some of the great things available...so without further ado...let's get on with it.

Dahlinks is proud to be a part of this wonderful event. We have released some pretty sparkies just for this show, starting with the Gate choker, earrings and bracelets pictured above.

Stunning black diamonds and sapphires in a gorgeous square design makes it easy to surround yourself in luxury at a fabolous price. Dark Obsession...NOIR by DAHLINKS

My newest obsession is dark, sleek and oh so fabulous. The primstress is right on track with her new NOIR line at Dahlinks. I am proud to tell you about the latest additions to join the NOIR line, the NOIR Concubine Earrings and the NOIR Concubine Slide.

These pieces have the perfect balance between being trendy and being able to be worn for years to come. The greatest thing about good pieces of jewelry is the longevity of wear you can get from them and their ability to withstand the test of time. I really love to find pieces that are visually striking and look up to the minute hot right now.....but when I pull them out some time later, they are still relevant and don't look dated.

Chandelier earrings are a definite hot trend still going on, and these gorgeous ones are fun and versatile. Just like their original cousins, these feature incredible filigree work in black metal and of course the stars of the show, my favorite black diamonds. As always, the texture on this is just classic. Trendy all black metal that pops, with just the right amount of sizzle. This slide goes with everything, trust me on this...I have been sporting it for a few days now..that is right, you heard it here...I even sleep it in...that is how much I love it.

The Cut That Excites....NOIR by Dahlinks

Stick and stones may break my bones, but razor blades excite me. *Me does an evil, kinda scary laugh*. Not that the newest addition to the NOIR line at Dahlinks is scary, but I do like to attempt one of those old school Nightmare on Elm Street laughs every now and then.

So what the heck am I rambling about. It is razors, but not ya old man's straight shaving razor. I am talking NOIR razors. I told you about Dahlinks newest line, NOIR recently, and this piece of black yumminess is the newest addition.

A slide necklace, this piece of perfection wraps around your neck and through a loop and dangling at the bottom is a razor blade encased in precious black metal and embellished with a small black diamond.

Dahlinks is proud to announce their participation this June in the Black and Blue Fair: Fashion for Mental Health Awareness. The fair will take place between June 4 to July 3, 2010.

This June, a selection of your favorite designers, including Dahlinks, will be presenting brand new and exclusive items only available at the fair and nowhere else (at least until the fair is over). Accessories, clothing, hair, skins and more, the fair will have it all.

The purpose of the fair is two fold. Firstly, FASHION. Who doesn't love a good fashion event? Brand new items, some at discount rates, all in one glorious shoppers heaven...love at first sight.
Second, there will be information about all sorts of mental health issues and illnesses throughout the venue. Mostly these will be visual aids around the precious couture so that people won't have to read huge chunks of text.

The main purpose of the fair is to de-stigmatise mental health issues. The are many people in Second Life that have unhappy "real life's" for whatever reason. Some of them are unwell, disabled, depressed and other people are just lonely or don't like who they think they are, but no one is alone in Second Life and everyone can be themselves. Greetings Dahlinks Darlings. Have I got a new realease to tell you about, and these beauties are near and dear to my heart. These exquisite earrings came to my rescue this past weekend.

ANZAC DAY - The slouch hat: Trademark of the Australian Army

Perhaps no other object has been so widely associated with Australian identities as the "slouch" or "digger" hat. Available at Dahlinks or on XstreeSL. Full sculptie and resizable even down to Tiny. 250L

Introduced into Australian military service in the second half of the 19th century, the hat was suited to the local climate and the rigours of military use. In later years it was hoisted on mastheads by victorious troops in place of a flag. More recently it has graced women’s fashions and adorned the heads of athletes and marching squads.

The slouch hat’s mark in history is rooted in Australia’s introduction to modern warfare at Gallipoli and the reputation established by the AIF on the Western Front. From that time the simple felt hat, with its side turned up, was an emblem of the courage of the Australian digger, and it became a national symbol.

“The Anzac spirit was born at Gallipoli in 1915. Since then it has been demonstrated not only by Australians in war but also by those whose contribution has been in other fields.”

The Anzac legend, which was the result of a devastating loss, rather than a great victory, has had, and continues to have, a significant impact on Australia’s identity. The Australian and New Zealand soldiers demonstrated the spirit of mateship, courage, loyalty, bravery, sacrifice, heroism, dedication, honour, integrity, initiative and determination throughout the 8 month Gallipoli campaign as they battled against daunting odds. These traits have come to represent the Anzac legend, which is evident in Australia today be it in war, conflict or peacetime.

On 25 April every year, Australians commemorate ANZAC Day. It commemorates the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. Commemorative services are held at dawn on 25 April, the time of the original landing, across the nation, usually at war memorials.

ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. In 1917, the word ANZAC meant someone who fought at Gallipoli and later it came to mean any Australian or New Zealander who fought or served in the First World War. During the Second World War, ANZAC Day became a day on which the lives of all Australians lost in war time were remembered. The spirit of ANZAC recognises the qualities of courage, mateship and sacrifice which were demonstrated at the Gallipoli landing.

Australians do not glory in conflict and ANZAC Day is not one of celebration but of rememberance. I invite everyone to take a moment to think of those men and women that fight to protect their homeland, where ever that might be. Even if you do not support the actions of a government, there is a saying "Support the Man if not the Mission".

Welcome to the darkside my Dahlinks Darlings. I had to take a deep breath and request oxygen backup when this beauty arrived in my life the other day. I tend to live on the edge of dark and light, between the black and white. Black happens to be my primary color choice in everything, if you see me running around in color it is almost always certainly with a splash of black thrown in. It is just me and I love it. So when the primstress drops a bomb like this in my life, there are no words, just sounds that escape me.

So this is how it works...

Avi 1 meets Avi 2. They flirt, converse, friend each other and one day somewhere much further down the line, they go out. This continues for a while. Then one day Avi 1 feels a bit bold and hops a poseball giving Avi 2 one hell of a smooch. And that's when love blossoms for these two Avis. From that point on...they're inseparable. I have always had an affinity for dog tags. I'm not really sure why. Perhaps it is the ability to make your mark without necessarily covering yourself in makers of 'here I am!!' But a dog tag...it just says plain who you are. But at Dahlinks...we not only give you a tag...there will always be a flair ;)

New Year, New Shiny!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, DAHHHHHHLINKS! No...not drunk!! I haven't had a drink yet (I know, I know... *sheesh*). But...here's why!! I was so excited over the new shinies that Dahlinks just put out I was drunk off of the awesome and kind of stuck in the new releases section...drooling and going d'urrrrrrrrr all night. *nods rigorously* Wanna see??? C'monnnnnnnnn you KNOW you wanna!! Ok ok...come look!

THIS is one of TWO new releases this year at Dahlinks: The Yin Yang Pendant (L$150)!! Available as male and female pendants, this modern spin on a very traditional symbol that equates to achieving balance is simply a MUST HAVE...especially in the new year.

A little history & backstory on this exquisite piece of ancient Chinese philosophy: the outer circle of the yin-yang represents everything. The black and white shapes (or in this case silver), represent how the two energies, yin and yang, interact. Yin (the black energy) represents the negative/dark/weak side; while Yang (the white energy) represents the positive/bright/strong side. It is also argued that yin represents female and yang, the male. Either way, yin and yang are not completely black and white as nothing in life is. My first piece of Dahlinks jewelry was from a Valentine's/Anti-Valentine's hunt back in 2008 *chuckles*. I wore that thing out. Then magic happened. One day I received a gift from Miss A and its brilliance made me smile for days. Hello Dahlinks Family! I really just am at a loss for words over the beauty of these two items, so I am going to do something I hardly ever do...post the pictures, drool and logout before I *urf* the pictures.

This necklace, on the surface reminds me of a necklace I saw, not sure of the time period, but it was crafted to look like this intricate piece of art, but hid a weapon in its sheath, a blade to be specific. Accented with gold, silver and black diamonds, this piece will be sure to draw attention no matter what you wear. It's simply...stunning. And funny enough...it has a partner of sorts!

Evolution of an Avatar

As anyone who has noticed the Dahlinks blog would realise, up till now it has been mainly concerned with telling the grid about new releases from Dahlinks Jewelry. Well an interesting thing happened to me yesterday and it started me considering one of my other chief passions in SL, apart from glittery junk and SHOOOESESESESESSS... breath breath... okay I am good now, and that is skins.

You see, an avi I had never encountered and had no knowledge of called xxxxx xxxxx dropped a strange skin on me called xxxx xxxx’s Skin. [The names have been xxxed out for reasons that are about to become apparent]. Now I was curious and cautious at the same time but it was late at night so I tried it on. Oh My DAYUMN... Now this was a nice skin... Too tanned for a typical Alex skin but ver ver nicely done. In fact too nice for a full perm skin with a generic full avatar name... Yep you guessed it. Ripped skin anyone. And not any ripped skin. A little investigation revealed the original makers copyright name there on the lower skin tattoo and I immediately IMed one of SL longest established and best known skinners and let her know that she had been ripped. Of course I thought... She probably already knows and this is only the thousandth IM she is getting regarding this. Boy was I wrong. Nope. This was the first she knew of it and in fact this skin was one she had just released.

This finally brings me to the purpose of this post. I have a passion for skins. From my second day in SL I have hunted across the grid for skins that suited my shape and my vision of my avi. I have spent thousands and thousands of Lindens in homage to the long hours of photoshop pain that goes into creating a good skin. Along with numerous other lesser known designers my skin closet includes an X2 skin from the period BEFORE they were ripped and flooded the grid, TaP, Celestial Studio, Abyss, Redgrave and Damiani just to name a few. I name these skins for a very good reason though.

Dahlinks Jewelry is almost two years old. During that time I have ALMOST exclusively used my own avi to shoot my vendor shots. In most cases I have also used my skin of choice for that given period of my avatar’s journey. Anyone walking around my store will see the evolution of an avatar.. at least the evolution of MY avatar’s journey in search of the perfect skin. Over the next 6 weeks I will be reviewing different skins as I shoot my holiday and anniversary releases... Stay tuned... Aussie Madness ahead!

I'm sorry for the brevity of this blog, but when I found that Dahlinks is one of the vendors in the Peace On Earth Hunt...I simply had to start plowing my way through it to see what other nummies were on the visiting trail. Then I remembered...I could just go straight to work and see for myself!

So as I forged through the store seeking the mysterious globe of anticipation for this hunt, I happened across our Christmas room and found ... NEW AWESOMENESS!!

Such a heavenly body (of work)...The Celestial Set

Usually...I'd preface the introduction of one of Miss A's new sets with a back story, some witty banter or sharp lyrics (well...I think they're sharp...) to kind of coincide with the awesome that is her jewelry. But...when I saw this set...I was stunned to silence (I know...right? Miss K don't get quiet! HA!!). But seriously...this set...The Celestial Set ...

... is by far one of the most glorious pieces I've ever seen inworld. It's breathtaking imagery and shimmer without the use of bling is sure to light up any outfit and make you shine like the heavenly creature you are! Available in either silver or gold on the menu, you can accentuate just about anything where you're wanting to draw attention to your hands. An 80's pop group inadvertently ended up with a moniker that glorifies these wonderful things and taught us in turn to "Walk Like An Egyptian" (who coincidentally also wore their namesake)... After 9 months (yes...ish a baby!!) and weighing in at 1329 set-by-hand prims total (not just a baby...a big baby O.O), we present this wonderful piece of artistry to you, or wonderful family.

THIS is an outfit NOT for the faint of heart (or faint of prim ... as it were ... LOL). Handcrafted by Miss A's loving hands, this piece showcases a bountiful headdress, demi-bra, two wrist cuffs, earrings and of course...the eye drawing girdle. Set with a modesty bra and panty that don't really need to be worn, this outfit will turn EVERY head it walks past. This is a showgirl outfit unlike any you have ever seen. One small note from Miss A: in order to be able to tp, first use the resizer in the bra and panty prims to fit the pieces to you, then delete the scripts. After this you can TP anywhere on the grid.

After about two hours of tossing, turning and slapping myself while dreaming that I was a in a tropical rain forest off of the Costa Rican shore with Beyonce' and a cast of characters from otehr movies and shows (are there even rain forests there?), I figured if I'm waking up from hitting myself...I should blog!!

Did you ever go into a store and love a necklace...Then you buy it and the damn thing lights up a ROOM....Gawd I hate that...And then you can't turn it off...EVEN WORSE....

I love elegance like most girls...I will say Dahlinks has more realistic looks in jewelry that I have seen in a long time...Mind you we all don't wear non-flashy clothes but I hate the bling that is blinding. Dahlinks may not blind you but it catches your eye...Details are so important in this graphic life and believe me I love the peices..

Well, it looks like I have a new direction in my second life... Amazing what happens when friends bully you enough. Over the last year I have tried my hand at a number of things that might possible ear a linden or two to support my shopping habit - hostessing, modelling, building houses and furniture and basically I found it all a little boring after the first day or so... Furniture caught my interest for a while... then sculpties came out and after one look at Maya... I decided that inworld brand promotion was probably an easier step ! lol... I may yet go back to Maya!

After 6 months of slinging boxes, writing classifieds, smiling at models, helping customers and laughing at over caffinated and sleep deprived designers, I was finally convinced to throw my hat into the ring and try to produce something worth selling...

That was 2 weeks ago...
On the 31st of Jan... I made my first sale... I was sooo excited. Of course have a position at the new Style Starts Here sim didn't hurt. And what was I selling you may ask... or not as you feel so inclined... jewelery. One of my RL and SL passions. That first day, and the following when the sim went public, were enough to spark my creative juices and get me all motivated about producing more and promoting my designs across the grid.

Dahlinks, named in honour of ZaZa the biggest jewelery maven the world has ever seen, is my new baby. The initial release concentrates a lot on classic pearls and casual contemporary pieces. I am really looking at making jewelery that I want to wear... and hoping that others might like it too.

All my textures are hand drawn and are a work in progress that I doubt I will ever be happy with. All the designs are full prim and hand set. I have a beef about necklaces that hang around your neck like hula hoops...

I am currently concentrating on link and bead work or natural semi-precious stones with a cabochon cut. There are a lot of designers making good quality sparkly gems cut sets in SL. I am trying to do the 'other stuff'. Fortunately, this works in well with the new casual lines at Style Starts Here (SSH). Welll, apart from the pearls that is... and they are just a life long passion.
