Evolution of an Avatar

As anyone who has noticed the Dahlinks blog would realise, up till now it has been mainly concerned with telling the grid about new releases from Dahlinks Jewelry. Well an interesting thing happened to me yesterday and it started me considering one of my other chief passions in SL, apart from glittery junk and SHOOOESESESESESSS... breath breath... okay I am good now, and that is skins.

You see, an avi I had never encountered and had no knowledge of called xxxxx xxxxx dropped a strange skin on me called xxxx xxxx’s Skin. [The names have been xxxed out for reasons that are about to become apparent]. Now I was curious and cautious at the same time but it was late at night so I tried it on. Oh My DAYUMN... Now this was a nice skin... Too tanned for a typical Alex skin but ver ver nicely done. In fact too nice for a full perm skin with a generic full avatar name... Yep you guessed it. Ripped skin anyone. And not any ripped skin. A little investigation revealed the original makers copyright name there on the lower skin tattoo and I immediately IMed one of SL longest established and best known skinners and let her know that she had been ripped. Of course I thought... She probably already knows and this is only the thousandth IM she is getting regarding this. Boy was I wrong. Nope. This was the first she knew of it and in fact this skin was one she had just released.

This finally brings me to the purpose of this post. I have a passion for skins. From my second day in SL I have hunted across the grid for skins that suited my shape and my vision of my avi. I have spent thousands and thousands of Lindens in homage to the long hours of photoshop pain that goes into creating a good skin. Along with numerous other lesser known designers my skin closet includes an X2 skin from the period BEFORE they were ripped and flooded the grid, TaP, Celestial Studio, Abyss, Redgrave and Damiani just to name a few. I name these skins for a very good reason though.

Dahlinks Jewelry is almost two years old. During that time I have ALMOST exclusively used my own avi to shoot my vendor shots. In most cases I have also used my skin of choice for that given period of my avatar’s journey. Anyone walking around my store will see the evolution of an avatar.. at least the evolution of MY avatar’s journey in search of the perfect skin. Over the next 6 weeks I will be reviewing different skins as I shoot my holiday and anniversary releases... Stay tuned... Aussie Madness ahead!

It's Snowing at Dahlinks!

Close your eyes and tilt your head back.  Stick out your tongue and taste the first fall of snow...
... it tasted like popsicles :)
~ a childhood memory

Presenting the Falling Snow Set (L$450)

If someone were to ask what a tasty snowflake looked like (other than melted), I'd point them to the Christmas room at Dahlinks.  This set is utterly...breathtaking.  Available in two metals and your choice of diamond, emerald or ruby gems, this set is sure to warm even the most cold of hearts into an appreciation for snow.  An elegant addition to a gown or simply something cute to bound around the grid in with a nice sweater, the Falling Snow Set from Dahlinks is not just a wonderful gift to sneak into that special lady's holiday stocking...but a piece that can be worn year round as well.

Be sure to stop by...before I fall to temptation and taste the snowfall (see the hijinks that ensues at work...below):

[in private im upon receiving new release notification]

Kilolo: that's really pretty
Kilolo wil refrain from humping the vendor wall...
Kilolo WILL REFRAIN from humping the vendor wall
Alex: lol
Kilolo's lip quivers as she resists the urge to hump the display...

later at Dahlinks...upon finding the new release...

Alex shouts: Stop humping that Kilo
Kilolo shouts: i didn't! i swear i didn't!

The Spirit of Chirstmas is Upon Us!

I'm sorry for the brevity of this blog, but when I found that Dahlinks is one of the vendors in the Peace On Earth Hunt...I simply had to start plowing my way through it to see what other nummies were on the visiting trail.  Then I remembered...I could just go straight to work and see for myself!

So as I forged through the store seeking the mysterious globe of anticipation for this hunt, I happened across our Christmas room and found ... NEW AWESOMENESS!!

Presenting...The Ho Ho Ho Belly Chain (pictured here in silver)

This delectable piece of Christmas cheer arrived in the store today ready to be wrapped and taken home to place in your stocking at a very affordable L$125. Also available separately in gold, this belly chain is a fabulous addition to any Christmas ensemble (or just wear it because it's so darn cute!).

Also...here's a peek at the Peace on Earth prize (a men's choker and a ladies necklace both included....it's the awesome!)

The men's choker features two pendant features available through our nifty menu as well as color and gem options. And...and...ladies don't think you can't benefit from this lovely gift. It's resizable and fits like a dream (*swooooon*).  So you get two necklaces for the ... click (?) of one!!  Speaking of which the peace chain for the ladies is fully gem changeable with nine gem selection as well as two metal options.  Talk about some wonderful things to get you in the holiday spirit!

I'm already abuzz with the holiday spirit...come on down to Dahlinks and pick up tons of wonderful things to fill everyone's holiday stockings.

Ni ni kids...time to make a shopping list *winks*
